Soap and candle makers are always looking for new ways to make their products stand out – and a creative label design is one way to do just that.
There are many options when it comes to creating your own labels or product stickers and over the next few posts, we will look at several options available to you including:
Using a professional printing company
Purchasing your own dedicated label printer
DIY on a regular home printer and
Opting for a print on demand service
In today’s post, we will look at using a dedicated label printer!
We looked at a wide range of options, but if you want full-colour label printing most label printers are spendy, often starting at the £1500 mark, so we found a great starter option to share with you.
The Brother VC-500WCR label printer is a great way to print full-colour labels for your soap and cosmetics. This compact printer prints full-colour labels that can be used in any setting, from the kitchen countertop, your home office or even your workshop.
The printer generates full-colour labels at 300dpi, so you can produce eye-catching customised wrappers for your products plus it provides an excellent resolution that forms a dense image onto your labels.
With its easy-to-use interface, you’ll be able to create your own custom labels with ease! Plus it’s perfect for those who want a more professional look without spending hours on Photoshop or Illustrator.
Sure, you can go to a printing company, but you will most likely have to have a fairly hefty minimum label print run and will never give you the flexibility to have your personal style and change designs easily.
For businesses just starting out in business, it’s tough to afford expensive marketing materials that are fully branded with your logo on them. Plus, if no one is buying your product and there’s no money coming in for any sort of a marketing budget, how would you ever afford something like that for each item you sell?
Think about it, if you’re printing out labels for your soap or candles and they don’t look professional because you printed them on regular printer paper, who’s going to want to buy them?
Labels can be a time consuming and frustrating task. But with your own label printer, you’ll only need to spend minutes to get custom graphics or text labels for your product. This particular system comes with easy to use software so you can create your own designs easily too and the label cartridges allow you to print up to 17 inches long – that’s a big enough wrapper for even the largest soap or gift box!
Unlike some colour label printers it won’t break the bank either, it’s available around the £180 mark from a variety of suppliers. Now, it won’t necessarily be as bright in colour as a professional printing company will produce but it does still have a tonne of benefits and this is a great way to get started with more professional-looking labels.
It uses some pretty funky technology and is a zero ink system. It is the heat and pressures it applies that change and produce the colour from the paper itself – who knew!
Once your business grows and you are printing more labels for each product, you will almost certainly want to switch and invest in a larger printing option and benefit from the price savings for larger print runs too but to get started this could be a great solution.
